Schedule

35 hrs. per weekMonday - Friday9:00 am - 5:00 pm
This position will require weekend work, and some holidays (as the husbandry responsibilities are shared by two technicians) and will very occasionally require after hours work (to address emergencies).

Position Description

In collaboration with the senior fish room technician, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the research and animal care activities in a small satellite fish room, which currently provides support for 5 postdoc researchers, and houses 6,000+ Mexican Cavefish (Astyanax mexicanus) and a small jellyfish system. Although this facility only houses cavefish and jellyfish at the moment, it has housed diverse model organisms in the past, and other organisms may be used in the future, so a flexible and diverse approach to husbandry is a plus.

As half of the husbandry team, the successful candidate will share accountability for all husbandry related responsibilities including life support system maintenance, equipment maintenance, diet preparation and feeding, breeding and rearing fish, preparing animals for researchers to use, record keeping, disease recognition and prevention, biosecurity support, and ensuring the following of all protocol and regulatory compliances by all lab members.

This individual will also share responsibility for non- husbandry related lab room duties including maintenance of research equipment (i.e. scales, imaging, incubator, fridge, and dishwasher), maintaining and ordering equipment stock, and general in lab organization and cleanliness. The Fish Room Technicians act primarily as support for fish-related needs of the graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with opportunities to assist with research if desired and as needed.

This position will require weekend work, and some holidays (as the husbandry responsibilities are shared by two technicians), and will very occasionally require after hours work (to address emergencies)
