Job Summary Hazard Community and Technical College invites applications for the position of Student Support Specialist I. This position will serve as a Student Success Coach generalist in student services and may assist in but not limited to the following areas: connecting students with academic and non-academic resources, career counseling, student financial aid, student records, recruitment, advising, support programs, registration and student disability support services.
This position is grant funded.
Review of applications will begin October 1st, 2024.
Job Duties: Duties to include, but not limited to:
•Assists non-traditional and traditional aged (including GED) students transitioning to college by providing a point of contact and acting as a resource during the student's first semester in college.
•Assists currently enrolled college students with supports such as how to use Blackboard, how to use the Student Center in PeopleSoft, and how to setup the student user account.
•Acts as a liaison with local resource providers and in-house HCTC student services (such as tutoring), monitoring assigned students' progress using a case management approach to confirm that the connections are made, develop standardized visiting schedules and organize or participate in on-campus student resource fairs.
•May provide initial registration/advising and development of a first draft of Individual Completion Plans (ICPs) in support of Academic Faculty Advisors' efforts.
•Attends activities and assists with recruitment and retention.
•Assists in the registration process that may include counseling, processing financial aid, or advising.
•Promotes services and responsibilities required under ADA, 504, and 508 federal laws.
•Advocates for the rights of students with disabilities.
•Assists with organizing multi and intercultural activities for students.
•Maintains a flexible work schedule that may require coverage of evenings or weekends as well as travel to other HCTC campuses.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
